Frisco TX, October 6, 2009 -- The Triangle Foundation today made a contribution of $1,100 to Youth First Texas to support sending two additional youth members to the National Equality March in Washington, D.C. The two youth will be joining six other members of Youth First Texas after they were sponsored at the recent North Texas GLBT Chamber of Commerce dinner.
The Triangle Foundation sought contributions after hearing Cleve Jones (co-founder of the National Equality March) speak at the chamber's dinner. During the dinner, Jones made the following the statement, "If you can’t make it to the National Equality March in October, send someone in your place." Armed with that challenge, the Triangle Foundation took up Jones' challenge and committed to gather donations from individuals to raise the necessary funds to send the two youth to Washington.
In a letter to Youth First Texas, the Foundation wrote,
The National Equality March is a historical step in redefining our country’s attitude towards equality for all. Having members of Youth First Texas attend the march will – hopefully – provide an invaluable opportunity to see the impact of the march first hand, and the motivation to continue the work that needs to be done following the march.
The contribution covers the cost of accommodation and airfare for each youth, and provides a small stipend for other expenses incurred during the trip. Additional donations are still welcome, and can be made directly to The Triangle Foundation, or directly to Youth First Texas.
